Mountain Medical Consulting

Mountain Medical Consulting
Mountain Medical Consulting offers individual service for outdoor programs to manage risk in austere environments.  As a former guide, avid outdoor adventurer and board certified emergency physician, Dr. Habicht provides a unique perspective on risk managment and medical advice for wilderness based programs.
  1. Medical Advisor
With a training in guiding, climbing, backpacking, emergency medicine, search and rescue, high altitude medicine and as a father who loves to adventure in the wild with his children, Dr. Habicht can help your organization with its medical care in austere environments
  2. Wilderness Protocols
Not every emergency fits neatly into a text book of protocols, Dr Habicht can fine tune your programs operations to meet your specific needs in the back country. A day hike in the Sierra versus a 21 day climb in South America will have vastly different medical needs, medications, equipment and planning. What tools are right for your trip?
  3. Risk Management
From general risk management to individual consultations about trips and clients, the goal is to equip your organization with best practices in the field. This includes review of your field manuals, evacuation planning, first aid kit contents, individuals medications, group dynamics and planned activities.
  4. Individual Consulting
Hypertension, diabetes, heart failure: how do you know if that client is ready to hike Kilimanjaro? Individual consultation, setting appropriate expectations and preparation for the unique needs of your clients and guides are the keys to a successful outing.
  5. Epinephrine
The outdoor recreation standards are leaning toward every guide having and knowing how to use injectable epinephrine in case of severe allergic reaction or asthma attacks. Dr. Habicht can help you obtain epinephrine for your organization as well as indications and instruction on its proper use.
  6. High Altitude
With expertise in high altitude illnesses, Dr. Habicht can provide the tools, understanding and medications for individuals, other physicians or organizations planning trips into thin air.
